The land is on the north east side, of Zante, in Skinari which is in the Municipality of Volimon. The land was chosen as it combines the peace and serenity of the green landscape as well as the blue of the sea that lies at the front of the estate. These are included in a land of 4,200 sqm offering the autonomy and the harmonization that we want in our place without destroying the natural scenery.
In the upper middle of the land are placed two stone houses which face east, offering panoramic views of the azure waters of the Ionian Sea, Kefalonia and the coastline of Zante. The estate is amphitheatrical and offers the most beautiful view.
We have paid great attention to the construction from top to bottom. The foundations are place on solid rock to make the buildings earthquake proof. The materials used in the construction are of the best quality and all supplies are personally checked by the owner.
The walls are made of rocks that are individually hand crafted one by one. During the construction, reinforcements of solid iron and concrete have been used every metre and the rocks have been built in a crisscross way, to provide the building with more strength. In the end of the walls are beams 40cc that are joined with the floor. The ground floor ceiling is beautiful, constructed of wood and with wooden beams. Eight handmade domes make the building really beautiful.
The wood that supports the rocks on the upper side of the windows and the doors are from olive wood that have been collected with great effort from the mountains nearby. We chose olive wood because its natural effect makes an incredible impact combined with the rocks, as well as for its endurance in the humidity and rain – it never rots. But there is a great difficulty in finding it because it cannot be purchased commercially.
The corners of the houses are made of big rocks collected one by one so as to make the building safer.
The roof is made of solid pieces of wood that are dipped in a special material to make them rainproof and to prevent any insect infection.
The doors and the windows are wooden and have been traditionally constructed with handmade doorknobs. The iron rails in the balcony are handmade in a traditional way, as it would have been done 200 years ago.
The tiles, the jewels of the roof, are also handmade one by one by the last active chimney maker on Zante. Their placement has been made by a local craftsman as it was done 100 years before, one by one glued together with mud and metal wire so as to prevent their destruction in bad weather.
Handmade traditional stones laid on the floors match the rest of the houses perfectly.
Every room has its own private bathroom for the comfort of the owner. There is a stone garage with a roof made of tiles in keeping with the environment. There is also a swimming pool included in the price.
The outside of the house has benches made of stone and small gardens full of flowers. A stone barbeque is situated near the benches. The estate has a stone fence and a wooden front door as would be found on an old mansion. All the above materials give out a sense of security and heavenly atmosphere - as well as providing a construction that will stand the test of time.
